JKAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP MARCH 2012 PERTH MANDURAH WA ENQUIRE FOR DETAILS OF ENTRY. ![]() Naka Sensei, 6th Dan JKA will be coming to JKA WA in September, 2011.
The 12th Funakoshi Gichin Cup World Karate-do Championship Tournament 9 Competitors and 2 Referee's from JKA Western Australia attended the JKA World Cup, in Pattaya Thailand, August 2011. The JKAWA contingent of the Australian Team landed in Bangkok early Monday morning, and after spending the night in a hotel near the airport, started on a hired bus to Pattaya. Our lovely Thai Guide, Binnie, gave us some instruction on basic Thai language (Sawadee!), and local customs. Arriving at our hotel, we checked ourselves in, and spent the afternoon becoming acquainted with our new surroundings. Tuesday brought our first training session with the rest of the Australian Team, which was held in a large conference room at the hotel. Instructors from each region of the country had a chance to train the group, giving the students several different viewpoints on what was going to be required for the competition. After enjoying two days of training with the Australian Team, the Junior World Cup began on Thursday. Seven of our junior competitors competed throughout the day, with Kane Briggs reaching the finals for 9 years Boys Kata, and Chantelle Barlow making the semi finals for 14 years Girls Kumite. Mayana Barnes, Katelyn Stables, Courtney Cullinan, Alex Williamson and Matthew Grove all performed well in their divisions. The Senior World Cup started on Saturday morning, with Nick Tognela and Jamie Patterson both competing in the Mens open Kata division. Sensei Jim Wood M.B.E, 6th Dan spent much of the week judging and refereeing. He was also a corner judge on Sunday, for two of the Finals Events. Sensei Aileen Wood, 5th Dan was a judge for the junior competition. JKAWA World Cup competitors would like to thank everyone who supported them up to, and during the competition. This includes parents and friends, and the fund raising committee. Special thanks goes to Sensei Aileen Wood and Sensei Jim Wood M.B.E, for their support and instruction, without which none of us would have made it to this prestigious competition. Wood Dojo is based in Mandurah WA, has been operating for nearly 10 years in Australia. The dojo has produced State and National Champions, and now has a squad of competitors and referee's attending the 2011 JKA World Cup. Wood Dojo is run by Sensei Jim Wood MBE, 6th Dan JKA, and Sensei Aileen Wood, 5th Dan JKA. For more information about JKAWF WA, Dojos, and training schedules, please use this form to contact us. |
