MessageThis report by Jim Wood MBE. At the spring Gasshuku in April 2009 at JKAHQ Japan, our respected JKA Chairman Mr. N. Nakahara publicly announced that the JKA does not recognise the following associations e.g., ISKF, WKC. The Chairman outlined the dishonorable manner in which JKANZ and JKAA were conducting themselves by showing no respect towards the JKAHQ. He said that these two countries also displayed a very hostile and rebellious manner towards the JKA and that the JKAHQ rules and regulations were being deliberately and continually ignored. The Spring Gasshuku was officially opened by the the Chairman who introduced 26 champion Instructors and offered all participants a challenge to try Kumite with them at any time during the Gasshuku. The JKAHQ Dojo went silent! Most of us enjoyed this daunting experience of sparring with the masters throughout the weekend training. Kumite was prevailent during the hard training every day. Mr. Nakahara mentioned that many groups in various countries have now achieved independence, and because of the success of the JKA independent group policy, countries like Canada, America, Scotland and New Zealand, are feeling the benefit of their newly found freedom. Associations are able to work together in harmony within the same country under the JKA multiple group policy. It is hoped that other groups in other countries will follow the same system in the future. I extend an offer to all JKA students in Australia to join us in October 2009 and April 2010 on our tour of Japan and train at the JKAHQ Gasshuku, and also to try to become accredited Instructors Referees and Kyu grade examiners. Many Black Belt students from JKAWFA have already expressed their interest in participating in next years Spring Gasshuku at the JKAHQ in Japan, some of which will try for JKA accreditations.
